So, which is better: a psychic reading in person or over the phone?
Hi, I’m David William. I’m a psychic medium, clairvoyant and tarot card reader, and I’ve been giving readings for over 25 years. In that time, I’ve given thousands of readings and seen quite a few changes in the way people choose to have them.
Years ago, if you wanted a psychic reading, you’d probably expect to sit opposite your psychic in the same room.
Today, most of my psychic readings take place over the phone or online via WhatsApp, FaceTime or Zoom — and given the choice, I actually prefer it that way.
Throughout this article, when I talk about having a psychic reading over the phone, I’m also talking about the other ways I now connect with clients remotely, including WhatsApp, FaceTime and Zoom.
Technology’s moved on quite a bit since I first started giving readings over the phone — making the way we connect simpler and easier.
One of the biggest questions I’m still asked is:
“David, don’t I need to be sitting in the same room as you for you to read for me?”
No.
The idea that you’ve got to be sitting in the same room as a psychic in order to have a reading is a bit like saying we should only use candles instead of light bulbs, or that we should all be riding horses instead of driving cars.
It’s 2026, not 1896. Times have moved on — and so have psychic readings.
And during this article I’ll be explaining why having a psychic phone reading could make your busy life easier, so let’s dive in…
Are Psychic Readings Over the Phone as Accurate as Face-to-Face Readings?
One other question I’m still asked is:
“Surely being in the same room as a psychic means I’ll get a better or more accurate reading?”
No.
When I started psychic readings many years ago there were only two ways a psychic readings tended to be done, face-to-face or over the phone and I used to provide both.
And in my many years of providing readings, I’ve never found that having somebody physically sitting in front of me made my psychic connection any stronger or the reading any more accurate.
All that matters is the connection between us.
Being connected matters. Being in the same room doesn’t.
It’s that simple.
How Can You Read Me If I’m Not Sitting in Front of You?
This is probably the bit that puzzles people most.
How can I possibly read someone who isn’t physically sitting in front of me?
Firstly, no, there isn’t a special button on Zoom that activates my psychic ability.
Joking aside, this is how I work…
During a psychic reading, I’ll “tune into” your energy, the sound of your voice and even your name.
I’ve an uncanny ability to read people through their names. Give me someone’s name and I will tell you about that person — who they are, where they are in their life at the minute and how their situation may be affecting you.
Crazy, I know. But I’ve been doing it for over 25 years.
Then, depending on the reading you’ve chosen, I’ll enhance that connection by using my psychic and intuitive abilities, together with clairvoyance and Tarot where appropriate, to give you clarity and insight into your life and the situations surrounding you.
And the best bit?
All of this takes place remotely, so you can be sitting comfortably at home.
No travelling. No finding somewhere to park. No racing through the door, stressed out, apologising because the traffic was horrendous.
Just you, me and your reading.
Preferably with a tea, coffee or hot chocolate somewhere nearby.
Does Distance Matter in a Psychic Reading?
Distance is no object.
I always say you could be sitting on the moon and, as long as I can hear your voice, I can still read for you.
Over the years I’ve given readings to clients all over the UK and around the world, and I’ve never found that physical distance makes any difference to the connection I’m able to make.
You don’t need to travel to me, sit opposite me or even be in the same country.
Today I connect with clients in different towns, different countries and different time zones.
If I can hear you, I can read for you.
Can a Psychic Medium Really Connect With You Over the Phone?
Yes.
Long before Zoom became part of everyday life, I was giving psychic readings to clients remotely by telephone.
I was the first psychic medium in the UK to give a live reading whilst streaming it on Facebook Live, so I’ve never been frightened of using modern technology as a medium — forgive the pun — for connecting with people.
Technology has simply given us more easier ways to meet.
The technology itself doesn’t create the psychic connection.
I do.
And yes, I’m absolutely sure you don’t need to be sitting in front of a psychic for your psychic reading to work. I promise.

Can I Still Feel My Loved One Around Me During a Mediumship Reading Over the Phone?
This is another question that may be on your mind because a psychic reading and a mediumship reading aren’t quite the same thing.
If you’re hoping to connect with someone you love in Spirit, you might understandably wonder:
“Surely if I’m sitting in the same room as the medium, I’m more likely to feel the presence of my loved one?”
I understand why you might think that, but that isn’t my experience at all.
Remember, your loved one in Spirit isn’t sitting in the room with me waiting for me to connect you with them.
They’re with you, where you are.
Over the years, I’ve given many mediumship readings remotely where the person I’m reading for has told me they could sense or feel their loved one around them during the reading.
I’m making the connection. You’re experiencing the reading. And your loved one is with you, wherever you happen to be.
So if you’ve been reluctant to have a mediumship reading over the phone because you’re worried it won’t feel as personal, emotional or connected as sitting in the same room with a medium, please don’t let physical distance be the thing that stops you.

Why I Actually Prefer Psychic Readings Over the Phone
For me, one of the biggest advantages of having your psychic reading over the phone (or via FaceTime, WhatsApp or Zoom) is that you get to choose where you have it.
Imagine this:
You’ve gone for your in-person psychic reading and the traffic gods have been unkind.
Now you’re running late.
You’ve spent an hour or more driving, got stuck behind a tractor, missed the turning, struggled to park and finally arrived late, stressed out and wondering why you ever left the house in the first place.
You bring all that manic energy into the room and it can take a little while to settle yourself down and actually enjoy the reading you’ve been looking forward to.
It’s a bit like a snow globe that’s just been shaken up.
Now imagine this:

The Psychic Reading That Ended in a Snowdrift
I once had a client who was travelling to see me for a face-to-face reading in the depths of winter.
Unfortunately, the weather had other ideas.
The snow became so bad on her journey that she ended up getting stuck in a snowdrift. Not only did she miss her reading, but she was absolutely freezing and eventually needed a tractor to come and pull her out.
Thankfully she was okay, and we could laugh about it afterwards, but I’ve never forgotten it.

Phone, WhatsApp, FaceTime or Zoom Psychic Reading: Which Is Best?
There’s no universally “best” way to have your reading.
Choose the one that makes you feel most comfortable.
Phone
If you don’t particularly love technology, choose the phone.
It’s simple, familiar and there are no cameras to worry about.
You don’t need to see me — and I don’t need to see you — for me to read for you.
WhatsApp is useful if you want the convenience of calling through an app, particularly if you’re outside the UK.
It gives us an easy way to connect using audio or video.
FaceTime
If you’re an Apple user and prefer seeing the person you’re speaking with, FaceTime keeps things straightforward.
Some people enjoy the feeling of sitting opposite me on screen.
Others would rather curl up on the sofa without a camera anywhere near them.
Both are absolutely fine.
Zoom
A Zoom psychic reading is another good option if you prefer a face-to-face style experience without actually travelling anywhere.
Twenty-four hours before your reading, I’ll send you a Zoom link. You simply join the Zoom call at the arranged time and we conduct your reading privately online.
Again, seeing each other doesn’t make the psychic connection stronger.
It’s simply personal preference.
Phone, WhatsApp, FaceTime or Zoom — choose whatever allows you to relax and concentrate on your reading.

Can you easily see what they offer and what it costs?
Read about them.

Reviews and testimonials allow you to hear from people who’ve already had a reading and were once in exactly the same position you are now — deciding whether this is the right psychic for them.
Personal recommendations can be invaluable too. A large part of my own work over the years has come through people recommending me to friends, family and colleagues, and I don’t think there’s a much better compliment than somebody trusting you enough to recommend you to someone they care about.
I’d also spend a little time looking around a psychic’s website or social media. Read some of their articles and get a feel for the person behind the reading.
Because experience and great reviews matter.
But so does something that’s harder to measure.
Do they feel like the right person for you?
If they do, wonderful.
If they don’t, keep looking.
Do your homework. Look them up. Read their reviews. Then listen to your gut.

How to Prepare for Your Psychic Reading Over the Phone
One of the lovely things about having your reading remotely is that you can create the environment that feels right for you.
If possible, choose somewhere you can talk freely and won’t be disturbed.
Put your phone on charge, grab yourself a drink and get comfortable.
You certainly don’t need to light candles, surround yourself with crystals or do anything particularly mystical before I call — unless, of course, you want to – I love a good crystal!
Give yourself a few minutes beforehand rather than rushing straight into your reading from whatever else you’ve been doing.
And if there are particular areas of your life you’d like some clarity around, write them down beforehand.
It’s remarkably easy for the one question you’ve been thinking about all week to disappear from your head the moment the reading starts.
Have a notebook and pen nearby if you like taking notes.
But most importantly, don’t worry about doing everything perfectly.
You don’t need to prepare yourself in any special way for me to read for you.
Just come to your reading as yourself.
